Club History

About Us

On the very edge of North Kerry, poised on a steep and picturesque hill, is the GAA football club – Brosna. Founded in 1888, our Club has evolved over the succeeding century into a well-established organisation – proud of its history and achievements.

In the Beginning

During the 1970s the Club we know today began to emerge. It was the decade that saw us strike out on our own with our newly minted distinctive tangerine and white jersey. As well, a hard-working Committee of volunteers had secured the funding that helped purchase the field that today is our impressive home ground: Pairc na Feile.

Memorable Achievements

We’ve had teams and individuals that have brought great distinction to our Club over the decades. At County level we’ve had Emily Woods bring home an All-Ireland Championship medal in 1993. We’ve had Jimmy Keane at the helm with the Kerry Juniors along with players Adam Barry and Eamon Kiely who brought home All-Ireland victories. In 2018, we’ve had Paul Walsh receiving the Electric Ireland Minor Player of the Year award for his performance with the winning All-Ireland Kerry minor side.

In 1985, our Senior Team were County Novice Champions and in 1989, County Junior Champions. At district level, four of our players were part of the 1988 St Kieran’s County Championship win. As well, we’ve had personnel on the pitch for the St Kieran’s minor wins of 1984 and 2009.

In addition to all of this, we do not forget all of the men, women and children who have played and volunteered throughout the decades, bringing honour to our Club at all ages, standards, as selectors and referees. We salute all of you.

All Ireland Glory

Most memorable of all our achievements to date has been the All-Ireland Junior Club Championship win of 2015. It was that fateful day of 14 February in Croke Park when the Tangerine Dream became a reality. A historic and proud day for the whole community.

A slightly different All-Ireland win but equally impressive was the Club receiving the coveted GAA McNamee Award for best Club Book. The Story of Brosna GAA is a stunning publication that weaves a captivating story of over 100 years of Club and Parish life.

Conclusion

Our Club is more than a field and clubhouse. We are more than the players, committee and club members who exist today. We are a living entity made up of a solid chain of men and women who, from the very first modest beginnings of our Club in 1888, have handed on with pride the sporting traditions and history of our Parish. Today we stand on their shoulders, reaching towards the future ready to pass to the next generation of men and women the spirit of our great GAA Club: Brosna.
